Simple Nature-Themed iPhone Cozy for iPhones 5 and smaller 7
(increase number of stitches for larger phones)
Materials: Worsted weight yarn in green, light blue, yellow,
and one contrast color (for cuff); US size 5 circular needles for magic loop,
US size 3 circular needles or dpn.
Using a double-sided cast-on, cast
on 30 st (iPhone 5), 36 st (smaller iPhone 7) in green. You will have 15 (or 18) stitches on each
needle.
1 – 11. Knit
across row (green)
12. Join light
blue yarn. (K1 light blue, K1 green)
x15. Break off green yarn.
13 – 25. Knit
across row (light blue)
26. Knit across
on first needle until two stitches remain, then join yellow yarn.
K2 yellow on this needle, K2 yellow at the
beginning of next needle, and continue in light blue for the rest.
Here I redistributed the stitches so the four
yellow stitches were approximately centered on one needle and the other needle
had the first seven and final eight light blue stitches.
Don’t carry the yellow strand under the blue
all around the project, as this will pull the stitches too tight and your phone
will not fit.
Intarsia is difficult in
the round, so I used this web tutorial to fudge it:

27. Knit across
up until last light blue st, k6 yellow, continue light blue.
28-30. Continue
in this manner until there are 12 yellow stitches.
31-32. Keeping
colors correct, knit across.
33. Knit across
up until first yellow st, knit it blue instead, k10 yellow, knit across in
blue.
34-36. Continue
in this manner until there are 4 yellow stitches. Break off yellow yarn.
37. Knit across
(light blue).
38.
Switch to contrast color, knit across.
39-41.
Switch to smaller needles, k2p1 ribbing across.
Check that the cuff covers if your phone. If not, knit a few more rounds of ribbing.
Bind
off using a stretchy method so that it won’t be too difficult putting your
phone in and taking it out.
